His Highness is very adept at finding the best places to relax and take a snooze. Sometimes he will wake up from a nap to find another spot to take a break from his nap and... well... take a nap.We can learn a lot from Bo about how to relax.

I was asked by my friend Scott to design a crest for his group (soldiers? brigade? Scotty, help me out here). It need a dragon a crystal ball and a latin phrase meaning "we see all." I didn't think my craftsmanship was up to the task but I pleasantly surprised myself with the outcome.

The following examples are a second draft after some input from Scott. The only difference between the two is one has a globe in the crystal ball and the other has a maple leaf.

If you read this before I send them to you on Monday Scott, let me know if you need other changes.

Judging a book by it's cover

Had a little reminder today to not judge a book by it's cover. I've receive MANY credit applications from National Vehicle Leasing for guys in the money industry (ie: investments, money managing, etc) wanting very expensive cars to keep up the facade of "having money."

Well today I received an application for a $71000.00 2006 Lexus SC430 (see picture below) for an investment guy. Based on previous experience I figured since he's young he's not going to qualify. I obtain his credit report and see a couple clean credit lines but what a shock when I looked at the "High Credit" column: $1 million dollar line of credit opened a couple months back at a major bank. Now I know I'm dealing with a guy who should know what he's doing. After that I noticed the $150,000 Porsche Financial Services credit line reporting.

Anyway, I had no problems approving the guy for his Lexus (which he plans on using as a winter car - we should all be so priviledged).

Other than that it's been a slow day at work.

Little change to the house

We got our garage doors painted to match the trim on our house. No more ugly white doors taking center stage when you see the house now. The painter will be back to paint the front door (Mayflower Red) and will be doing the interior of our house in a couple of months. He had a computer color match done to a piece of the trim to save us some agony trying to match the color via paint chips.

Falling

Fall is on it's way, so it's falling. What a wonderful summer we have had though. It certainly makes me forget about the last couple of crappy ones. A few of our neighbours are putting down sod and getting trees since it's getting a bit cooler. We haven't decided either way about anything in the yard yet and may just wait until spring to do the grass. We did weed our entire yard this last weekend in preparation for some work in a few days. We're getting some berms added and our backyard leveled a bit more. The weeding was not fun - especially when it was 36 degrees on sunday. However the job is done and we're sore to prove it.

Farming is almost done here in the interlake, or should I say harvesting. That's about a month earlier than normal. The ag industry in Saskatchewan and Alberta has also picked up a bit here at work. I'm seeing a few more apps than normal for items such as grain bins and augers. Nothing like last year from Saskatchewan, but still busy.

Marla and I have decided to hold off on buying a new computer until after the end of October. If anything we might just upgrade the one we have because, hey, it still does the job. Other than that everything is pretty much status quo.

This is totally going in our dining room

I'm trying to find a larger version of this picture to print and put in our dining room. I find it very amusing and I believe it's very "us" (and in Marla and I).

Glass lined lungs

That's what it feels like anyway. Or more like a glass lined throat. Doing the insulation and vapour barrier in the basement now and I've come to realize that I don't believe insulation is in my future career path. I tried wearing a mask but with every exhale I was steaming up my glasses. I know, I know, inhaling fiberglass vs. steamed up glasses should be an easy choice.

Anywho, like I said, it's almost done. Just being held up by a part of an exterior wall (ie: one we did not do - the builder did it) that's bowed a bit. Once that's fixed we can finish it completely and get the inspector in to have a look. Once he approves, then it's on to drywall.

Cedar dog

Not much to report today, so here's a picture of Cedar. Took it this evening out on the front walkway. Fixed the levels using photoshop and added a very muted sepia toning to it (just enough to give a slight brown filter). I think it came out ok. It's really hard to take a bad picture of Cedar anyway as she is very photogenic.
